Verdict
Our Verdict on the BS
Franklin pairs a transfer-friendly design with a final course that puts you on a small student audit team, correcting a set of financial statements and reporting what you find. A program advisory board that includes leaders from KPMG, Plante & Moran and Nationwide meets with faculty each academic year.
Franklin University, a private nonprofit school in Columbus, Ohio, offers this B.S. in Accounting through its business college. Classes are delivered fully online in 6-week and 12-week courses, and the program holds IACBE accreditation.
Fit
Who It Fits
- If you're a community college graduate, up to 94 of the 124 credits can transfer.
- If you're a working adult who needs a start date soon, you get eight starts a year.
- If you're a service member, you pay $250 per credit.
- If you're drawn to management accounting, Cost Management is written to meet certified management accountant (CMA) exam education requirements.
Curriculum
What You'll Study
You start with Financial and Managerial Accounting, then take Intermediate Accounting I and II on theory and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Federal Income Tax I covers individual taxpayers, and Federal Income Tax II covers corporations, partnerships, estates and trusts. Accounting Information Systems links business, technology and accounting.
Auditing covers evidence gathering, internal controls and sampling. The capstone, Accounting Research & Analysis, ties your upper-level research together. Electives include Fraud Examination and Accounting Data Analytics. You can also take an Accounting Internship of 1 to 9 credits or the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Tax Practicum, a supervised tax-preparation experience.
Length
How Long It Takes
The degree is 124 credits. Franklin estimates 17 months if you study full-time with an average of 80 transfer credits. Transfer credit tops out at 94, and you can earn credit by examination with College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) and DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) exams.
For the 150-hour route to certified public accountant (CPA) licensure, the Accounting Data Analytics certificate adds 16 credits. The Ohio Society of CPAs has proposed that these count toward the 150-hour requirement.
Cost
Tuition and Fees
Tuition is $398 per credit. A Tuition Guarantee locks your first-term rate for the whole degree while you stay enrolled, and College Transitions in 2026 noted the rate hasn't risen since 2021. Transfer credit lowers the bill: the school's own estimate is $11,940 after maximum transfer.
Format
Format and Schedule
Every class is 100% online, so you never travel to Columbus. Courses run in 6-week and 12-week formats, and a new term begins eight times a year. College Writing and a learning-strategies course come before any 200-level class.

Auditing covers CPA professional standards, and the program prepares you for the CMA and certified internal auditor (CIA) exams.

Voices
What Students and Graduates Say
Students reviewing the school on Niche describe a schedule flexible enough to study while handling work. An alumnus on a review site said flexible scheduling let them earn a bachelor's degree while moving up in their industry.
College Transitions, in February 2026, praised the rate lock and the transfer policy. A graduate testimonial on the school's page says a tax accounting professor from a public accounting firm led that firm to reach out for an interview.
That interview led to the graduate's current career.
