In Intermediate Accounting I you work through cash, receivables, revenue recognition, time value of money and inventory. Intermediate Accounting II turns to plant and equipment, leases, long-term debt and income taxes, with data analytics projects. Length

How Long It Takes

The major is 120 credits. You first declare pre-accounting and finish lower-level prerequisites before you apply to the major, and you'll find it's screened. From another college, no more than nine accounting credits count toward admission, and at least half of the major's credits must be earned at Towson.

The accelerated B.S./M.S. and the M.S. in Accounting and Business Advisory Services are designed to complete the 150 credits that Maryland and many other states require for CPA licensing.

Cost

Tuition and Fees

Towson reports about $1,077 per credit to federal data. There's also a list of named scholarships, including awards from Deloitte and SC&H.

Format

Format and Schedule

You'll take classes in person on the Towson campus. The college reports an average class size of 30. The annual CBE Career Fair draws more than 40 employers, and the Accounting Open House is a recruiting fair for Greater Baltimore accounting and advisory firms.

Credentials

Which Certifications It Prepares You For

Towson holds AACSB accreditation for both business administration and accounting. The department says only three Maryland public universities have the additional accounting accreditation. The major supplies the accounting courses for the Uniform CPA Examination in Maryland, and the department partners with providers of CPA review materials. You can start at a CPA firm with the bachelor's then finish the 150 credits later.
