Verdict

Our Verdict on the MAcc

Rider's MAcc lets you build your own concentration from nine credits of MAcc and MBA electives, including Fraud and Forensic Accounting, Business Valuations and Enterprise Risk Management. Six start dates a year mean you rarely wait long to begin.

Rider University offers the Master of Accountancy through its business school, which holds dual AACSB accreditation in business and accounting. You can complete it fully online or take evening classes on campus.

Fit

Who It Fits

  • Recent graduates who want the 150 hours quickly, since the MAcc fulfills the 150 credit-hour requirement and many full-time students sit exam sections during the program.
  • Rider undergraduates: on the 4+1 path, you pair a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Accounting with the MAcc in one additional year.
  • Business majors without accounting: you'll add 18 credits of foundation courses. You can waive them with a C or above in an equivalent course.
  • Students drawn to data: the business analytics concentration includes an internship as one of your electives.
  • Working professionals: evening classes run Monday through Thursday, and you can go full or part time.

Curriculum

What You'll Study

The degree is 30 semester hours: 21 required and 9 electives. In Seminar in Federal Taxes, you'll cover C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, gifts, estates and trusts. Analysis of Accounting Data uses analytics to study financial statements and audit risk.

Issues in Financial Reporting works through current standards with cases. Auditing Practice and Problems covers internal control, cybersecurity and data analytics. Professional Research and Communication builds your writing and interpersonal skills. Electives include Fraud Detection and Deterrence and an Accounting Internship.

Length

How Long It Takes

Thirty semester hours is the whole degree. Required courses run every fall, spring and summer, and electives usually rotate over three semesters. You can enter right after an undergraduate degree or while you're working. The 4+1 path adds the MAcc to a four-year accounting bachelor's in one more year, and a dual degree option pairs the MAcc with another master's.
