Fit

Who It Fits

  • Connecticut CPA candidates: the school says quite a few students are "150-ready" when they finish the B.S.
  • Students who want the 150 hours in five years have an accelerated pathway. It pairs the B.S. with a Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) or an MBA, and you apply in your junior year.
  • Students who want paid experience: your internship earns you three credits in accounting electives and applies toward CPA, CMA and CIA experience.
  • Future auditors and analysts: the program includes Auditing and Accounting Analytics and Professional Competencies.
  • Parents: you'll find free on-campus child care.

Curriculum

What You'll Study

The program has a 30-credit business core, a 24-credit accounting core and two accounting electives worth 6 credits. The accounting core includes Intermediate Accounting I, II and III, which cover everything from the accounting cycle to leases, pensions and deferred income taxes. Cost Management Systems teaches job order, process, activity-based and standard costing. Auditing introduces the audit process under Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and ASB standards.

Accounting Information Systems has you build data models and document internal controls. Accounting Analytics and Professional Competencies adds spreadsheet skills and ethics reasoning, and shows how accountants turn data into useful information. You finish the business core with Strategic Management and a Capstone Seminar. The Accounting Society links students to local, regional and national firms, the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute of Management Accountants.

Length

How Long It Takes

You'll need 120 credits. If you're headed toward 150, you can choose the five-year accelerated B.S. plus MSA or MBA. The pathway lets courses count toward both degrees, which cuts the total credits and time. Eligible students apply during their junior year and can finish both degrees in as few as five years full time. Study abroad is also available.

Cost

Tuition and Fees

You'll pay about $350 per credit at Central, based on the annual out-of-state tuition the school reports.
