Verdict

Our Verdict on the BSA

The 120-credit plan takes you from Fundamentals of Financial Accounting through three intermediate courses to a required fourth-year class in data analytics. The department also holds its own AACSB accounting accreditation and ends the degree with a senior research assignment the school calls unique to SIUE.

The Department of Accounting in SIUE's School of Business offers the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy on the Edwardsville campus in Illinois. You attend classes in person, and the school calls them interactive and rigorous.

Fit

Who It Fits

  • Future certified public accountant (CPA) candidates: the 120-hour degree pairs with SIUE's Master of Science in Accountancy, which is designed to supply the extra 30 hours toward 150.
  • Students drawn to audit or tax: you take Principles of Auditing and Introduction to Taxation, and the school names internal auditing and tax accounting as career paths.
  • Students who want St. Louis firms: the campus is near the city, and the department's Meet the Firms event brings employers to you.
  • Students who like data work: you take Data Analytics for Accounting as a required fourth-year course.
  • Students who want time abroad: you can spend a semester or a summer at partner schools in England, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Japan.

Introduction to Taxation surveys federal tax law for people, corporations, estates and trusts. Data Analytics for Accounting takes a user approach to accounting data.
