Missouri State's Master of Accountancy has only one required course, Emerging Technologies in Accounting, so you build the other 27 credits from tax, audit, fraud, analytics and forensic electives. You can also do a paid internship alongside the coursework.

The Pendleton Family School of Accountancy in the College of Business offers the Master of Accountancy at Missouri State University in Springfield. It's a public school. You can take the 30 credits seated or fully online.

Fit

Who It Fits

  • Future Missouri certified public accountants (CPAs): the degree fulfills the education requirement for the exam in Missouri, and the school recommends it for reaching 150 credit hours.
  • Accounting majors at Missouri State: you apply in the second semester of your junior year. The bachelor's plus the MAcc takes you five years.
  • Career changers without an accounting bachelor's: the program accepts you. You'll take prerequisite courses, which add hours.

  • Working professionals: the school recommends six hours a semester and offers evening and online classes.

Curriculum

Curriculum

Emerging Technologies in Accounting is the one required course. You look at how new tools change accounting work and the risks they bring. You'll pick electives from three lists. In Data Analytics in Accounting, you use Microsoft Excel and Tableau. Fraud Examination covers prevention, detection and investigation. In Computer Forensics and IT Auditing, you study information system controls.

Tax Accounting II covers partnerships, corporations, estate and gift tax. Forensic Accounting covers litigation support and expert witnessing. Controllership and Accounting Analytics prepares you for controller and chief financial officer roles. You can also take an internship for credit. No more than three hours of internship and independent study count.

The school sponsors Beta Alpha Psi and the Accounting Club.

Length

How Long It Takes

The degree is 30 credit hours, or 10 courses. At least 18 hours must be at the 700 level. If you take 12 hours a semester full time, you'll finish in two years. If you work, the school advises you to take six hours a semester.

If you're an accounting major on the accelerated path, you finish the bachelor's and MAcc in five years. Up to 12 hours count toward both degrees. You can also combine the MAcc with four nine-hour certificates in analytics, forensic, managerial and tax accounting.

Cost

Tuition and Fees

You'll pay $414 per credit hour, the same for Missouri residents and non-residents. That makes $12,420 for 30 credits. Courses numbered 600 to 799 carry an added $65 per credit hour fee.
