Verdict

Our Verdict on the BBA

Temple gives you a six-course accounting core with an optional Data Analytics concentration that adds Python and a data course. You can also join groups like Beta Alpha Psi and the Fox Accounting Association.

The Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting comes from the Fox School of Business at Temple University in Philadelphia. You'll find it listed in the bulletin at the Main campus and online. It's a 124-credit degree built for careers in public accounting, corporate finance, tax and government.

Fit

Who It Fits

  • Future auditors: Auditing is writing-intensive and sits in the fall of year four, after two Intermediate Accounting courses.
  • Students who like data work: the optional concentration adds Python programming and a Data and Analytics course.
  • Pennsylvania certified public accountant (CPA) candidates: the degree meets the state's education rule to sit for the exam.
  • Future management accountants: the second capstone, Strategic Financial Management, lists certified management accountant (CMA) exam preparation as an objective.
  • Students who want recruiters: accounting majors can take part in Beta Alpha Psi, the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) chapter and the Fox Accounting Association.

Curriculum

What You'll Study

The accounting major is 24 credits. You take Cost Accounting, Intermediate Accounting I and II, Accounting Information Systems, income taxes, and Auditing. Intermediate II takes you through pensions, leases and cash flows. Information Systems covers internal controls and gives you hands-on time with accounting software.

Auditing looks at the audit report, evidence and the auditor's ethical problems. Electives include Advanced Financial Accounting, which covers consolidated statements, and an IT audit course that touches on System and Organization Controls (SOC) engagements and blockchain. The capstone is ACCT 4501 or ACCT 4502, and you may take the other as your elective.

The Data Analytics concentration brings the major to 31 credits.

Length

How Long It Takes

The degree is 124 credits, and the bulletin publishes a suggested four-year plan. Summer sessions let you add credits, though more than 8 needs an advisor's petition. Temple requires 30 credits taken at Temple, and older transfer courses are reviewed to see if they're still current.

Fox also offers accelerated +1 programs that finish a bachelor's and a master's in less time. For Pennsylvania licensure, you add 12 more credits in accounting, auditing and tax.

Cost

Tuition and Fees

Temple lists the online BBA at $739 per credit hour for 2026-2027. The rate doesn't change if you're a Pennsylvania resident or an out-of-state student.

Format

Format and Schedule
