Verdict

Our Verdict on the MAcc

UF's Master of Accounting packs a graduate audit or tax sequence into seven-week modules, so you can start in summer or fall and finish in one year. You don't need the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE). You can also pursue a joint Juris Doctor and master's program with the Levin College of Law.

The Fisher School of Accounting offers this master's inside the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Classes meet in person on campus. The business school is AACSB accredited.

Fit

Who It Fits

  • Accounting majors who want audit depth: Auditing 1 and 2 anchor your Auditing concentration.
  • Future tax specialists: you can choose the Tax concentration, then add corporate, partnership or international tax.
  • Applicants who'd rather skip entrance tests, since you don't need a GMAT or GRE score.
  • Students planning law school who want both degrees through the joint law and accounting program.
  • Students who like data work: you can build machine learning models and present findings with visualization tools.

Curriculum

Concentrations and Core Courses

Once you're admitted, you pick Auditing, Tax or no concentration. The two Auditing courses, ACG 5637 and ACG 5647, cover the audit process. TAX 5025 and TAX 5027 are the two-part tax sequence. Advanced Accounting handles business combinations.

Governmental Accounting covers state, local and nonprofit reporting. Forensic Accounting surveys fraud work. Data Analytics for Accounting applies analytics to accounting records. Other options include Partnership Taxation, International Auditing and Information Systems Assurance. You can add a graduate minor in Information Systems and Operations Management.

Length

How Long It Takes

The program requires 34 credit hours, 28 of them at the graduate level. A summer or fall start finishes in one year. A spring start takes 16 months. You'll typically attend class four days a week. Applicants with a non-accounting degree take about 2.5 to 3 years, prep coursework included. UF's 3/2 route reaches a joint bachelor's and master's in five years, counting as 150 hours.

Cost

Tuition and Fees

UF reports $1,139 per credit to federal data. The school posts 2026-2027 tuition and fees of $18,106 for Florida residents. Fisher also makes one-time master's awards each year, 20 to 40 of them, for students who did their bachelor's at UF. They run from $2,500 to $4,000.
