Verdict

Our Verdict on the BBA

Texas State lets you fold a Master of Accountancy into the bachelor's through an integrated route that finishes sooner than taking the degrees back to back. Fifth-year courses line up with certified public accountant (CPA) exam sections, and the ethics course is approved by the Texas State Board of Public Accountants.

The Department of Accounting in the McCoy College of Business at Texas State University offers this Bachelor of Business Administration. You'll take classes on the San Marcos campus.

Fit

Who It Fits

  • Texas CPA candidates: the master's step, coupled with the bachelor's, satisfies the Texas CPA education requirements through the educational pathway.
  • Students who want one smooth plan: the integrated BBA/MAcy places graduate courses like Advanced Accounting in the senior year.
  • Future tax specialists: fifth-year options include Partnership Taxation, Tax Research and Tax Practice, Procedures, Audits and Controversy.
  • Students who want a firm connection: Meet the Firms, Fall Fest and Winter Fest bring recruiters to campus so you can meet them.
  • Students curious about policy: you can take a course in Washington, D.C. on how accounting oversight and standard-setting work.

Curriculum

What You'll Study

Your first accounting courses are Introduction to Financial Accounting and Introduction to Managerial Accounting. Data Analytics for Accounting then teaches you to frame business problems, prepare data and interpret findings. Accounting Systems shows you transaction cycles and internal control frameworks. Auditing and Internal Controls walks you through audit planning, risk assessment and sampling. Business Entity Taxation studies C corporations, partnerships and S corporations.

Advanced Accounting teaches you consolidated financial statements. Master's electives include Fraud Examination, IT Auditing and Business Information Consulting, which uses client case work. You can add a 3-credit or 6-credit accounting internship. The master's step ends with a portfolio of skills, and you'll choose a concentration in the fifth year. Beta Alpha Psi, the Accounting Club and the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) are the student organizations you'll find.

Length

How Long It Takes

It's a four-year, 120-credit bachelor's degree. The integrated major totals 150 semester credit hours, with 30 of them in the Master of Accountancy. The department says the integrated route finishes quicker than earning the two degrees one after the other. Graduate-level courses such as ACC 5316 and ACC 5323 appear in the senior-year plan, so your master's work starts before the fifth year.
